Activision job listing suggests Call of Duty: Warzone is coming to mobile

Call of Duty: Warzone may be on its way to mobile devices, according to a now-removed job listing spotted by Charlie Intel (via VG 24/7). The Battle Royale game is currently available on consoles and PC for free.

The job listing was discovered on Activision’s website, which called for an Executive Producer, Features, to work on “WZM.” Charlie Intel believes WZM to be an acronym for “Warzone Mobile.” The publication captured a screenshot of the job listing, which describes a “new AAA mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise.”

Since its release in March, Warzone has become a tentpole in Activision’s lineup, amassing over 75 million players since launch. Months after release, the playerbase is still going strong, with continuous updates keeping the Battle Royale shooter fresh with new content. Adding a mobile version into the mix will further cement Warzone as one of the premier Battle Royale titles on the market, rivaled by the likes of Fortnite and PUBG.

According to the job listing, the mobile version of Warzone will likely be a watered-down version of what’s currently available on consoles and PCs. A mobile version should nevertheless excite Call of Duty fans. Call of Duty: Mobile actually already has its own Battle Royale mode, offering some locations from Modern Warfare and Black Ops. Releasing Warzone on mobile could allow players to carry over some of the progress they’ve made in the current version, including weapon and Battle Pass progression. Whoever gets the job at Activision will be tasked with figuring out what Warzone features will be ported to the mobile experience, and also develop “mobile-specific additions and changes.”

Activision is currently planning to release Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this fall, which will expand Warzone with new characters, weapons, and possibly locations. If and when the mobile version of Warzone does come out, expect it to feature some content from this fall’s Cold War release. Activision has yet to publicly acknowledge a mobile version of Warzone, and there’s no telling when it may be released. But a job listing is usually a pretty good indication something is in the works.
