One UI 2.5 brings Live Caption to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and others

Google demoed a new Android 10 accessibility feature called Live Caption at its I/O Developer Conference last year. The feature made use of a new API in Android 10 to capture audio played on the device and transcribe it into captions automatically. Live Caption first rolled out to users as a Pixel 4-exclusive, but it made its way to older Pixel devices over the next few months. With the launch of the Galaxy S20 Series earlier this year, Live Caption finally made its way to non-Pixel devices. Since then, several OEMs have enabled the feature on their phones. Now, according to a recent post on Reddit, the feature is available on the Galaxy Note 10 Series running the latest One UI 2.5 update.

Following the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 Series early last month, Samsung started rolling out its latest One UI 2.5 update to older Galaxy devices. The update has already reached a couple of devices, including the Galaxy S10 Series, Galaxy Note 10 Lite, Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy Note 10 Series, and the Galaxy Tab S6. It brings a bunch of new features that were announced with the Galaxy Note 20 Series, and, according to a screenshot shared by u/omgitzmo, it also enables the Live Caption feature on the Galaxy Note 10+. We checked to see if the feature was available on other devices running One UI 2.5, and we can confirm that it’s also available on our Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite units.

As you can see in the attached image, the One UI 2.5 update adds a Live Caption Quick Settings tile to the device. To use the feature, you can tap on the new tile and then play any audio on your device. The feature should automatically capture the audio and transcribe it into captions that will appear on your device’s screen. In case you have a device running One UI 2.5, you can check to see if it has the feature available by searching for ‘Live Caption’ in the device settings. Settings related to the feature should pop-up in the search results. If you don’t have the feature on your phone and you still wish to try it out, you can follow the steps given in this guide to enable Live Caption on any rooted Android 10 device.
